Haxey Hood 2003

Back at the Hood with Mik Sanger, and I didn't have a camera to bring, on account that I'd left it at a friends in London. Still it meant that I was able to enjoy the Hood without having to get photos. Just enjoy the beer, etc. It was good..

     So, the Hood started late this year, as the procession didn't arrive at the church until 14:50. So the main game didn't start until 15:50.

For over an hour the Sway didn't really go anywhere, just around the field where it started. But then a conserted effort made it move to the road and on its way to Haxey.

An hour later it arrived just down the road at the Duke William. Here it stayed for about 30 minutes while a fearce battle took place over whether it should pass the Duke or not. At one point it actually pasted the Duke on the other side of the road, but after several stopages it finally headed backwards and to the other side of the road and eventually to the Duke.

Game finished at 17:40, 1 hour and 50 minutes after it started.

I'll write this up much better in the next weeks, just wanted to get the result up the same day.
